Human factors & non technical skills for train drivers.
Areas of particular interest
We are particularly interested in two aspects of SA. This is the low pressure as well as high pressure situations. According to recent incident statistics we have, it is the low pressure situations and distraction involved in the cause of the majority of incidents. Like a lot of other industries, train drivers have lots of time for their mind to wander interrupted by the odd occasion of higher pressure activity.
We aimed to give simple and clear key messages that drivers can follow and benefit from.
To that end we have been working with the human factors specialist medic, Dr Kevin Fong along with the airline industry and CASA (Civil aviation safety authority) to develop the most important messages.
Taking advantage of this work we have been working in partnership with LOROL to develop a DVD with messages and examples of situational awareness from a wide range of industries.
This incorporates the very latest research findings.
